Christmas tree skirts should not be wider than the average width of the tree branches. And, you should also try and keep them away from areas where people walk as this can cause accidents.
Nowadays Christmas tree stands are often large and bulky and need to be camouflaged. A traditional Christmas tree skirt may not be big enough to cover your stand-if this is the case, you may need to make your own Christmas tree skirt to fit around the stand. Alternatively, you could drape a length of fabric around the base of the tree.
If you do use a Christmas tree skirt, don’t forget that the tree will still need watering. It makes sense to leave an opening in the skirt so that you can remove the water pan when needed-it’s a good idea to cover the water pan with a sheet of plastic or foil so that the Christmas tree skirt doesn’t fall into the water pan below.
