Christmas Tree Skirts
from:Christmas trees are big business. To keep the business going manufacturers have come up with all sorts of items that people might want to add to their tree-Christmas Tree Skirts are one such item. Whether you want to cover up that unsightly tree stand or create a more complete picture with your Christmas tree, Christmas tree skirts can provide the finishing touches to your tree.
Christmas tree skirts have been around for a long time. When people used candles to light their trees Christmas tree skirts were used on the floor below the tree to catch the dripping candle wax. Christmas tree skirts are also used to collect any needles that fall from the tree. Nowadays Christmas tree skirts tend to be used as a decorative feature even under artificial trees.
Red, green or white flannel Christmas tree skirts are traditional and practical-as are those made from felt. Originally the skirts were made from ordinary cloth but as time went on they became more ornate-richly embroidered and patchwork quilt skirts were used. There are lots of different types and styles of Christmas tree skirts available. You can go for a wow skirt or just a simple one. If you want your Christmas tree to be the center of attention then choose a Christmas tree skirt that is made of lush fabric with lots of bright colors and shiny metallic thread. If all you want is a background for other things, then a plain fabric skirt in a neutral color would be just fine.
The size of your Christmas tree skirt will depend largely on the diameter of your tree and its stand. You need to make sure that the skirt is big enough to cover the tree stand beneath. Christmas tree skirts should not be wider than the average width of the tree branches. And, you should also try and keep them away from areas where people walk as this can cause accidents.
Nowadays Christmas tree stands are often large and bulky and need to be camouflaged. A traditional Christmas tree skirt may not be big enough to cover your stand-if this is the case, you may need to make your own Christmas tree skirt to fit around the stand. Alternatively, you could drape a length of fabric around the base of the tree.
If you do use a Christmas tree skirt, don’t forget that the tree will still need watering. It makes sense to leave an opening in the skirt so that you can remove the water pan when needed-it’s a good idea to cover the water pan with a sheet of plastic or foil so that the Christmas tree skirt doesn’t fall into the water pan below.
