Many plan a barbecue or picnic as their main Christmas meal-this enables them to take advantage of the pleasant weather. A barbecue is less trouble to prepare than the traditional roast dinner-especially if it is a very hot day. After a Christmas dinner using traditional Argentinian Christmas recipes, tables in Argentina are covered with sweet things and drinks like cider, beer and juices. This is very similar to other countries-many of us like to sit back and relax after Christmas dinner. It is good to sit around the table with family and friends feeling full and satisfied-at some point most people will want to pick at sweets and have a drink; and this is what the Argentinians do.
The people in Argentina eagerly wait for the time of the toast. This is another of their traditional Argentinian Christmas recipes-the toast is a drink that is prepared with different kinds of fruits; these are cut into pieces and mixed with juice and cider. Along with the special and usual holiday items, there are cakes topped with sidra which are served with dessert. Champagne also plays an important role in Argentinian Christmas drinks-it is also a common feature of many American Christmases.
