Christmas Activities for Classroom

from:

The weather has turned cold and dreary and your students suddenly have a case of cabin fever. It doesn’t help that Christmas is just around the corner and they are behaving as if they have ants in their pants. Obviously recess outside is out of the question. What can the frustrated teacher do to help the kids burn off some energy or even games for the class Christmas party? Never fear, the following are some great Christmas activities for the classroom.

This activity is perfect for an indoor recess. Every child has played a game of freeze before. This is just a Christmas variation on that game. Allow the students to dance to Christmas songs, like “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” or “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” When the music stops, the students freeze. They will have a great time laughing at the odd positions their classmates end up in. This activity is sure to break up the boring winter blues.

Another good idea on the list of Christmas activities for the classroom is playing Candy Cane Hockey. All you need for this one is some jelly beans and candy canes. Have your students set up goals on both ends of a table. Hint: the jellybeans make outstanding goal posts. The teams of students then use the candy canes as hockey sticks and try to knock another jellybean through the goal posts. It isn’t clear if you have to declare a winner. They get so excited cheering each other on, they may not notice.

Classroom Christmas parties are one of those long awaited events in school. Every adult remembers theirs and so will your students. The Christmas Stocking Relay is a great party game and high on the Christmas activities for classroom list. Divide your class into teams. Place bowls with individually wrapped candies, like peppermints or caramels at one end of the classroom and previously decorated stockings hung on the other end. This is a relay game in which the children, using a plastic spoon, scoop up a piece of candy and quickly transport to the stocking. They then return to their teammates, pass the spoon to the next in line, and the process repeats itself. The first team to fill the stocking could be the winners or you could time the game and whoever has the most candy in their stocking when time is up wins.

Other Christmas activities for classroom include singing carols, which most children love, making cards or gifts for parents, and possibly practicing for a school Christmas pageant or show. A little bit of imagination and a lot of patience can get both you and your students through this time of year. Remember Christmas activities for the classroom are a good way to keep your class entertained.
