A FAVORITE CHRISTMAS CRAFT TRY AT HOME

from:

Christmas is a magical time of year in any household. While it is a time of obligations and commitments it’s also a time for celebration of family and friends. It’s a time to mix with co-workers and get to know them, and time to stuff yourself with your favorite foods. In many cases, it’s also a time to work on a favorite Christmas craft.

There is craft called “The 12 Days of Kissmas” craft that circulated about 10 years ago and makes different variations of this craft annually. Not all of them include the chocolate treats! The craft consists of a large red wooden heart, with the words “The 12 Days of Kissmas” written on it in black script. Attached on a red ribbon (which can be tiered), are candy treats. The recipient will love counting down the 12 days of Christmas with the help of treats!

Who says that a simple Christmas craft can’t be rewarding? Many people buy the items in bulk so that they can create as many as they want each year to give away as last minute gifts to people they have forgotten, or to those who show up with an unexpected gift. As everyone knows, you should always have some spare gifts and cards on hand around the holidays and this Christmas craft will help prevent an awkward situation.

You can buy heart shaped pieces of wood, red spray paint, thin satin red ribbon, and a calligraphy marker from a local craft store. Next you will buy 2 metal eyehooks. These can be found at craft stores or more easily at home improvement stores. Finally you will need your candy treat! Make sure you have a lot of ribbon and treats, as you will go through a lot in preparing this Christmas craft. Remember to look around for sales on those items that you can get at multiple places (i.e. candy and ribbon).

The craft making itself consists of spray-painting all the hearts at one time, outside where ventilated and then let dry. After the wood has dried, screw in the eyehooks. The top eyehook should be in the upper “V” of the heart and the bottom eyehook should go at the point of the heart. Use ribbon and create a knotted loop in the top eyehook. This will be the means by which the recipient hangs their present. The bottom eyehook will be for attaching ribbon, which holds the treats.

Most times people usually make an equal amount of chocolate as non-chocolate hearts. Be creative with the writing on the heart. Examples that have been used are “12 Days of Pez-mas”, “12 Days of Mint-mas”. Don’t be afraid to be silly, as it will bring a smile to the face of the recipient. Also keep in mind that you can mix up the colors on this craft for different people. Be sure to try different ways of attaching your treats to the ribbon on the bottom eyehook. If you are only doing one treat a day it is usually fairly easy to tie them all on. Once you get more comfortable and creative with the craft you can try attaching more (i.e. 12 for 12 days, 11 for 11 days, etc) or attaching using other methods.

Hopefully this Christmas craft has giving you an idea of a simple but memorable craft that you can make this holiday season to decorate your own house, or to bring a smile to others. Happy Holidays!
